Raleigh, NC - A walk-off three-run home run by ALLISON VAUGHN sealed a 12-9 victory in nine innings for the Lady Lions over #9 Rowan University in the team's first game of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic.

It was history repeating in second contest of the day for the Lady Lions as Vaughn again delivered in extras with a basehit that handed Piedmont a 6-5 win over Hood College in eight innings.

The Lady Lions had three home runs in the first contest as freshman HANNAH HOBAN recorded her first career home run in the Green and Gold, and both JESSICA BAGWELL and ALLISON VAUGHN homered as well for the first home runs of the season for the Lady Lions.

SARAH WALKER earned the start for Piedmont tossing 5.2 innings before MELISSA ECKMAN stepped in during the sixth inning and induced a groundout to end the inning. Eckman recorded three strikeouts over the seventh, eighth and ninth innings including a strikeout looking to end the ninth inning, earning her first victory of her collegiate career.

AVERY MIGUES, the leadoff hitter in the seventh inning, looked to put a promising run together to end the game with a solid shot to center field, but the center fielder for Rowan who had subbed in made a diving effort to thwart the momentum. The Lady Lions put two runners on with AUDREY ESAKOFF at the plate in the seventh but again, the centerfield made a stellar play, running through the fence to catch Esakoff's deep ball that would've been a walk-off.

Instead, the Lady Lions were forced to wait until the ninth for the heroics as Piedmont was not robbed a second time of a walk-off with Vaughn sending the Lady Lions into triumph with a 3-run walk-off home run over the wall in right center.

In game two, Vaughn delivered again as Piedmont had to rally from a five-run deficit to force bonus softball for the second time.  Vaughn's RBI basehit back up the middle in the top of the 8th set the stage for MELISSA ECKMAN to pick up her second win of the day as she retired the side in the home half with a pair of strikeouts looking and a line out to end it in the one-run win.

Turning Point
--ALLISON VAUGHN's 3-run home run over the wall in right center was the difference in Piedmont's 12-9 victory over #9 Rowan University.
--In the 6-5 win over hood, it was again Vaughn who delivered an RBI basehit in the top of the 8th before Eckman shut down the side in the home half.

Standout Performances
--Three Lady Lions had home runs in the contest against Rowan as Vaughn, JESSICA BAGWELL and HANNAH HOBAN hit it out of the park.
--MELISSA ECKMAN picked up two wins working in the circle for the Lady Lions, the first two wins of her Lady Lion career.

Inside the Box Score
--The Lady Lions had a total of three home runs against Rowan marking the most home runs in a single game since hitting three home runs in 2010 against LaGrange College.
