MATCH FACTS
Piedmont will play Salem College in a 1st Round contest of the USA South Championship Tournament on Tuesday, November 1 with the first serve set for 5:00 pm ET. The match will be played at a neutral site as the Lady Lions took the #3 seed out of the West Division and face 6th seeded Salem at the #2 seed Maryville College who hosts the 1st Round contest before taking on the winner later the same night. Live stats and live video will be available for fans unable to make it to Maryville, Tennessee to watch in person.
SCOUTING SALEM
The Spirits of Salem College enter at 12-17 overall in 2016 posting a 4-11 mark in conference play. The Spirits have won four of their last five outings including sweeping Huntingdon College in the regular season finale Saturday. Salem's last loss came Thursday, October 27 to Maryville College 3-1, the team awaiting the winner of tonight's first round match. Junior Kylie Taffer and Freshman Taylor Moulton lead the team as both have eclipsed 300 kills this season while Mariah Sharon is best on the team posting 423 digs. The Spirits are coached by Kevin Troup who is in his second season leading the Salem College Volleyball program.
SERIES RECORDS
These two have met six times with four of those meetings coming as conference foes including a trio of meetings when the two shared time in the Great South Athletic Conference. Piedmont is 6-0 vs. the Spirits in those meetings with only one of those coming at home, a 2010 showdown in October.
CAN YOU DIG IT? - YES SHAQ, SHE CAN
HALEY HIXON has recorded 522 digs this season putting her in contention to reach the 1,000 career dig mark in just her sophomore season at Piedmont College. Her 522 digs this year have her just 22 shy of the 1,000 mark after posting 456 in her freshman season a year ago. Hixon would become just the fourth Piedmont player in the 25-point era (since 2008) to eclipse the 1,000 career dig mark and would likely become the fastest player to 1,000 career digs having played in only 205 sets to this point. Hixon has averaged 4.77 digs per set in her career. The career leader in digs for Piedmont College is Paige Eslinger with 1,784 digs in 377 sets averaging 4.73 digs per set in her four-year career.
LAST TIME OUT: 3-0 WIN VS. AGNES SCOTT (OCT. 29)
It was an offensive display for
KATELYN DURMIRE and the Piedmont College volleyball team earlier Saturday as the Lady Lions swept Agnes Scott College on the road 3-0 in a regular season finale for both.
Piedmont took the opening set 25-19 to take a lead before an impressive performance in the second set by the team and middle
KATELYN DURMIRE who collected nine of her match-best 16 kills in the set to help PC take a 25-16 decision going up 2-0.
The third was a 25-18 winner for Piedmont who closed out their 6th straight sets win in conference on the 2016 season.
NEXT UP FOR PIEDMONT
Should Piedmont earn a win in this 1st Round match-up with Salem, the Lady Lions will face the hosting Scots of Maryville College later Tuesday night in a Quarterfinal showdown.
