Men's Soccer Drops Road Contest to Methodist 5-2

Fayetteville, NC - In the final weekend of the regular season, the Piedmont College men's soccer team dropped a road contest to the Methodist Monarchs 5-2 Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs outshot the Lions 26 to 10 keeping the Piedmont defense on its toes as ELLIOT SAILES earned the start in goal making it his second of the season.

Methodist got on the board first with a goal in the 6th minute and scored again in the 41st to take a 2-0 lead but the Lions got on the board thanks to a shot by TOMMY HILL in the second half. Hill's score came in the 61st minute as he took a loose ball in the box scoring in the top right corner of the goal.

Just over a minute later in the 62nd minute, Fredrik Aalberg of the Monarchs answered that Hill goal with one of his own, making it his second of the contest. Methodist would add another in the 83rd minute but this time it was Piedmont that would answer quickly as VICTOR MUNOZ netted a shot in the 84th minute.

The final score of the game came off the foot of Honore Nshimiye sealing the 5-2 win for the Monarchs. Piedmont ends the regular season Sunday on the road taking on N.C. Wesleyan who sits at 11-5 and 8-1 in conference play after taking their first loss in USA South play to Maryville in OT Saturday. 

Turning Point
--After a goal by TOMMY HILL to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 61st minute, Fredrik Aalberg scored his second goal of the contest and eventual game winner to make it 3-1 in the 62nd minute.

Standout Performances
--Fredrik Aalberg scored twice in the contest leading all scorers. 

Inside the Box Score
--ELLIOT SAILES made nine saves in the contest as the Monarchs had a total of 26 shots with 14 on goal. 

News & Notes
--Both VICTOR MUNOZ and TOMMY HILL scored their sixth goals of the season in the contest. 

Up Next
A journey over to Rocky Mount, North Carolina as the Lions complete a two-game road trip in conference play with their regular season final at N.C.
