LaGrange, GA - Finding themselves in another tight battle on the road, the Piedmont College women's soccer team used a second half goal from veteran SAVANNAH CASTLES to get past LaGrange College 1-0 earlier Sunday afternoon.
Castles' score came in the 59th minute when Piedmont created a good chance that saw a hard shot saved off the crossbar.
However, it fell in the path of an oncoming Castles who needed no first touch to power a shot past LaGrange keeper DeAundra Green.
The goal gave Piedmont a 1-0 lead that was more than enough for the Lady Lions to get their 9th win in conference and 10th win overall setting a line now of nine straight seasons with double-digit wins for the women's soccer program.
Turning Point
--A two-shot flurry in front of the net as Piedmont's first shot was tipped off the bar before it fell to
SAVANNAH CASTLES who promptly fired it off the far post and in for a 1-0 lead.
Standout Performances
--
SAVANNAH CASTLES added to her season-high goal total earlier Sunday with her 8th goal of the year as she scored on her only shot of the day.
--Piedmont's back four as PC allowed just one shot to the opposition for the 6th time in the last ten games.
Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont was rather quiet offensively though the visiting Lady Lions outshot the Panthers 8-1 including a 6-1 advantage in the second half.
--The Lady Lions owned a 5-1 avantage in corners in the first half before earning just one in the second that
MORGAN EDELMAN hit the crossbar on with a header.
News & Notes
--The Lady Lions have now shutout their opponent in four of the last six games, but there's more to the story as evident from the shot count.
--In seven of their last ten games, Piedmont has allowed two shots or less to the opponent with six of those seven seeing only one shot from the opponent of PC.
Up Next
The final weekend of the regular season as Piedmont plays host to Covenant College on Friday, October 21 and Maryville College on Saturday, October 22. The two games will likely decide the top four standings in the West Division of the USA South as only eight points separate the top four teams.
