Need to KnowScore: Piedmont 75, Meredith 45Records: Lions 14-4 (9-0 USA South), Avenging Angels 5-12 (3-6 USA South)Location: Raleigh, N.C. - Meredith CollegeRaleigh, N.C. - The Piedmont College women's basketball team continued its dominance in the USA South moving to a perfect 9-0 in league play Saturday with a 75-45 victory over Meredith College. The Lady Lions have not lost since before the christmas break with an undefeated record posted in the new year.
Piedmont took control of the game early after surrendering a turnover and a bucket to start the game by then reeling off eight straight points to get out in front. It remained a 10-7 game until under four minutes left in the first quarter but Piedmont went to work making it 21-12 heading into the second period.
The second quarter was the game changer for the Lady Lions as it was all Piedmont, outscoring Meredith 22-7 in that second period as Piedmont led by 24 at halftime 43-19. The Avenging Angels kept it close through the first 4:00 of play in the third quarter, but again, Piedmont pulled away outscoring Meredith 18-8 in the final 6:00.
The fourth quarter was the only period that Meredith outscored Piedmont as they put up 13 while holding the Lady Lions to just 12 points, but it was too little too late as the Lady Lions ran away with a 30 point victory.
LE'SHAUNDA JONES had 6 steals marking the second time this season she had reached that mark while also adding 10 points and 7 rebounds.
MARY KATE RUSHTON led Piedmont with 13 points as it was truly a team effort for this victory.
Turning Point--A 22-7 second quarter made it a wide open game for Piedmont who took a 43-19 lead into the break.Â

LE'SHAUNDA JONES posted an impressive six steals while also adding 10 points and seven rebounds.
Inside the Box Score--The Lady Lions held Meredith to just 28.8% from the floor, marking their second best defensive performance of the season as they held Averett to shooting just 27.8% on January 16.
News & Notes--Piedmont came into the day riding a nine-game winning streak that started back on December 19, 2015 with a win against Webster in the Cruizin Classic.
--The Lady Lions were also 3-1 against Meredith prior to their Saturday meeting with the last win for Meredith in the series coming by six points back in the 2012-13 season, Piedmont's first in the USA South.Up NextPiedmont will return to action Sunday in Staunton, Virginia to take on Mary Baldwin College before returning home for a USA South doubleheader on Wednesday with the men's team against Maryville.Â
