Box Score 2 Zebulon, N.C. – The Piedmont College baseball team wrapped up their series with fellow USA South Athletic Conference member Greensboro College this afternoon with two wins on the day.
The Lions picked up a sweep over the Pride in their last USA South conference series winning the first game of the twinbill 7-4 and the second game 4-2.
MAX OBERKOFLER picked up the win on the mound in game number one moving to an impressive 5-2 on the season. The senior currently leads all pitchers on the staff in wins.
JOSH THOMAS would pick up his second save in two days making an appearance in all three games of the series. Thomas has acquired six saves this season for the Lions effectively handing his team a win displaying a 4-1 record as well.
EVAN GRESHAM led the Lions in game number one with a 2-for-2 performance and 2 RBI to seal the victory in game number one.
SETH GEORGE made the start in game number two picking up the no decision after throwing six strong innings only giving up two hits with five strikeouts.
The freshman found himself locked in a pitcher's duel in game number two as neither team picked up a run until the Lions scored in the top of the eighth inning.
The sole run in the eighth inning was the result of a
ZACH LANGLEY RBI single to score Gresham. Langley finished the second game 2-for-5.
MATT STEPHENS picked up his second win in two days on the mound throwing the seventh and eighth innings perfect with no hits or walks and striking out two. The senior has stepped up his role in some late-inning appearances for the Lions.
Thomas came in to finish game number two, but not before the Lions would pick up three key insurance runs in the top of the ninth.
TYLER MARCINKO knocked in
WILL SKIDMORE on his fourth triple of the season.
Gresham then singled to score Marcinko followed by a
BRECK DAVIDSON double to bring Gresham home advancing the score to 4-0 in favor of the Lions.
The Pride managed two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the comeback was cut short as the Lions swept their final USA South series.
Gresham managed to reach base nine out of his 10 at bats in the doubleheader. Langley and
AUSTIN BRICK picked up two hits apiece in the second game as well.
Piedmont advances to 22-14 overall and 18-12 in conference play. With the series sweep, the Lions have produced at least 20 wins or more in nine of the past ten seasons under head coach Jim Peeples.
