Berry Hands Piedmont 12-5 Loss in Men's Lacrosse as Vikings Visit Walker Athletic Complex

Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's lacrosse team fell 12-5 in a home decision against the visiting Vikings of Berry College earlier this evening at Walker Athletic Complex.

Five different Lions scored in the contest as Piedmont is now 0-4 against the Vikings since the Lions lacrosse program began with the 2012 season.

The Vikings opened the scoring after five minutes of a defensive stand-off in the first quarter as Berry's Cory Hall broke the 0-0 deadlock at the 9:38 mark. Two more unanswered goals by Berry gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage after one though the Lions outshot the Vikings 9-7 in that opening period.

Berry would score three more in the second before DAVID SALVATELLI put Piedmont on the board with 4:22 remaining as he scored on an unassisted effort to make it a 6-1 game. The goal was the 11th of the season for the freshman Salvatelli as he has now scored in three of his last four games played.

SPENCER ORTIS was the first to score after the break making good on a man up opportunity to cut the deficit to four goals for the Lions who trailed the visitors 6-2 with almost 12 minutes remaining in the third.  Berry then put three past the Lions in just over a minute with the first coming with 2:50 remaining to end the period now in control 9-2 over Piedmont.

The Lions scored three in the fourth period, but the effort was equaled by Berry who finished the game having scored exactly three goals in every period for the 12-5 win over PC.  Piedmont had 37 shots on the day which was only one less than the 38 of Berry with shots on goal following the same pattern with the Lions having 20 compared to the 21 of the Vikings.

MICK BAKER took the loss in the cage for Piedmont as the veteran made nine saves of the 21 shots on goal faced for a .428 save percentage. Berry played a pair in goal combining for 15 saves and a .750 save percentage.

The Lions picked up two goals out of the four man-up opportunities on the day while continuing to play well a man-down holding the Vikings to one of five on such chances.

With the 12-5 loss to Berry, the Lions have now dropped five straight bringing their overall record to 3-8 in 2015.

Piedmont takes the field again at home on March 28 to face the Monarchs of Methodist University with opening face off at 7:00 pm under the lights at Walker Athletic Complex. Live coverage will be provided, video and stats, by the Mane Event Broadcasting Network for the game on Saturday night.
