Concordia Comes South to Hand Lions 13-7 Loss at Walker Athletic Complex

Demorest, GA –The Piedmont College men's lacrosse team was defeated at home earlier today by the visiting Falcons of Concordia University of Wisconsin in a 13-7 decision.

After an even first six minutes of the contest, Concordia broke the deadlock through Derek Brueske, the first of two straight unassisted efforts by the Falcon. Brueske scored another before Piedmont would get on the scoreboard through SPENCER ORTIS with 6:47 remaining in the first.

Brueske completed the hat-trick before the end of the opening period scoring with 1:49 remaining in the first to lead Concordia over the Lions by a first quarter score line of 4-1.

DAVID SALVATELLI would open the scoring for the Lions in the second period with 12:41 remaining to cut the lead to two goals. However, a slew of penalties starting with just over ten minutes remaining would cost the Lions as Concordia scored three man-up goals in a row after the Salvatelli goal earlier in the period.

Ortis and TAYLOR CARTER capped off the second period with a goal each to bring the Lions into halftime trailing by five on a 9-4 score line. Carter scored with only 23 seconds remaining in the period taking a pass from SUMNER GANTZ and putting it in the back of the net as Gantz led the team with a pair of helpers on the day.

Through the remaining two quarters, the scoring went goal for goal with only seven total goals being scored in the second half after the two teams combined for 13 in the first half

Brueske scored the final goal for the Falcons with 2:42 remaining in the matchup. The goal brought his tally to seven goals on the day, one more than the final difference (6) in the contest.

STEVE BLANCHARD would pick up two goals including the final goal of the game bringing his season total to 21 goals as he continues to lead the Lions in scoring on the season.  PARKER ELLISON scored his first goal of the 2015 season in the third period on a great coast-to-coast solo effort.

Ellison's score brings the Lions to 15 different goal scorers for the 2015 season. A pair of goals by both Ortis and Blanchard would lead the Lions in scoring while two assists by SUMNER GANTZ led Piedmont in that category.

MICK BAKER was in the goal for the Lions today making 18 saves of the 31 shots faced for a .581 save percentage.  RYAN PRICE would lead the defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls as the senior continues a run of five games where Price has had three or more caused turnovers.

After this 13-7 defeat the Lions are now 3-6 on the season. Piedmont will look to pick up its fourth win of the season when the Lions travel to Ferrum College on Saturday, March 21 with first face-off at 12:00 pm ET.
