THE COACHES David Kelton enters his second year coaching the Panthers. Kelton was an assistant for LaGrange for four seasons before being named the head coach last year. Before coming to LaGrange, Kelton was drafted in 1998 out of high school by the Chicago Cubs in the second round. When Sammy Sosa was surrounded by a corked bat scandal, Kelton got the call up and saw his first action in the bigs. Selected as the 2002 minor league player of the year, Kelton also earned a spot on a minor league All-Star team eight out of his nine seasons.

Now in his 14th year at the helm of the Lions baseball program, Jim Peeples has helped establish one of the most consistent programs in the South Region, if not the country, with 10 of his previous 13 seasons featuring 21 wins or more including a current streak of five straight. Since 2008, Piedmont has made two appearances in the NCAA National Tournament as the 2014 version posted 25 wins and finished in the top four of the USA South Regular Season standings for a second straight year.
SCOUTING LAGRANGEThe Panthers were selected to finish 7th in the USA South this season, matching their finish in the 2014 season where the Panthers were 10-14 in conference play and 14-23 overall. In their 2015 opener in Rome, GA the Panthers picked up 8 hits against the Berry Vikings but dropped the contest. Leading the way for LaGrange was sophomore Alec Redden who went 2-4, and also scored one of the team's three runs.
SERIES RECORDSSince joining the USA South in the fall of 2012, the Lions and Panthers are tied at an even 4-4 with 6 of the 8 games being decided by three runs or less. The Lions, however, hold the overall advantage with a one game lead over the Panthers sitting at 22-21 since the start of the NCAA era in 2005.
USA SOUTH PITCHER OF THE WEEKOn Monday,
CHRIS GOERSHEL earned Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career after a stellar outing against the Scots of Maryville College the previous Friday. The senior tossed six shutout innings in an 11-0 season opening win over USA South foe Maryville on the road.
