CHRIS MEEKS made sure the Lions fans went home happy with a last second put-back to seal a 74-72 victory over Berry College. The Lions managed seven points in 0:26 seconds in order to come from behind and win the nailbiter.
Piedmont led by as many as 11 in the game but trailed by five points, their largest deficit of the night, with 0:31 to play.
KELLY ASSINESI hit a layup in the paint with 0:26 seconds to go then a
PEYTON LUKEN three with 0:13 on the clock tied the game.
Tied at 72, the Vikings had one last shot, but
TRAE GAINES got up and blocked it giving the Lions one last look. With most thoughts heading to overtime,
KELLY ASSINESI had a different idea as he drove the lane looking to lay it in for the win, but when his shot was rejected it was Meeks who took the opportunity and began the celebration in Cave Arena.
TRAE GAINES led all scorers with 21 points in the game including a dunk in the final two minutes of the first half.
CHASE ENGLAND and
PEYTON LUKEN both reached double figures with 18 points and 14 points, respectively.
Meeks accounted for nine points and led the team in rebounds with nine as well just one point and one rebound shy of his third double-double of the season. Piedmont shot 63% from the line while holding the Vikings to just 43%.
Turning Point--The final 0:26 were all Piedmont as the Lions scored 7 points to come back for the victory.

Inside the Box Score--Piedmont only saw 6 points off the bench while the Vikings had 33 points from non-starters.
News & Notes--This is the first victory over Berry for Piedmont since a two point win in December of 2013, 87-85. Up NextPiedmont travels on Thursday to Sewanee to face the Tigers in their second meeting in nearly two weeks. The Lions lost to the Tigers in a close call at home 60-57 on December 5 inside Cave Arena. Thursday's game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
