The Lions had five athletes in double-figures in the conference opener led by
PEYTON LUKEN's 16 points.
Luken was 4-of-9 from 3-point range with all four of the Lions' 3-pointers.
TRAE GAINES scored 14 while
CHRIS MEEKS notched 12 points and 8 rebounds.
MARQUISE LANIER scored 11 while the reigning USA South Player of the Week,
CHASE ENGLAND, netted 10 points.Â
Jerrod Pettus led all scorers with 21 points as he shot 9-of-13 from the floor. The Lions were unable to record a block in the contest while the Hawks had eight.
Piedmont trailed 13-2 early in the contest before going down 12 points but came back to take a 31-28 lead at the break. These two remained close throughout the second-half and
CHASE ENGLAND scored the final four points of regulation.
England hit a pair of free throws and made a layup inside of 10 seconds to go to send the game to overtime. Luken hit a 3-pointer with 2:29 to play to put the Lions up 67-66 but a pair of layups for the Hawks sealed the victory.Â
Turning Point--Piedmont overcame a 12-point deficit in the first half to lead 31-28 at the break, but were outscored 34-31 in the second half leading to OT.Â
Standout Performances--
CHRIS MEEKS put up 12 points and 8 rebounds in his return to Huntingdon College.
Inside the Box Score--In OT, just 13 points were scored as Piedmont could only manage 5 points in the extra period.Â
--The Hawks scored 22 points off turnovers to the Lions 15.Â
News & Notes--This is the Lions first loss to Huntingdon since February 16, 2014. Up NextThe Lions will return to action inside Cave Arena on December 5 at 4:00 p.m. taking on Sewanee: University of the South.Â
