Hatfield Takes Over for Lady Lions in 3-1 Win for Women's Soccer vs. Huntingdon

Need to Know
Score:  Piedmont  3 - Huntingdon 1
Records:  Lady Lions 11-0 (6-0 USA South), Hawks 3-6 (1-4 USA South)
Location: Demorest, Georgia - Walker Athletic Complex

Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's soccer team saw one of its veterans take over in Saturday's 3-1 win over Huntingdon College as junior MEGAN HATFIELD scored two goals and picked up an assist on the other for the win.

Hatfield converted a penalty kick awarded in the 11th minute to give Piedmont a 1-0 lead, but the Hawks fought back to score on a set piece as Hanna Cloud headed away her third goal of the season to make it 1-1 in the 28th minute.

However, Hatfield answered the goal with a brilliant cut and finish less than eight minutes later putting Piedmont up again.  Just three minutes after her score, Hatfield again broke free on the left and this time cut a ball back for freshman JAZMIN PENADO who finished near post to hand Piedmont a 3-1 lead before the half had finished.

Neither team scored in the second as Piedmont went on to claim its 11th straight win to open the season, the best start in the program's history having outscored its opposition now 36 to 2.

Turning Point
--The three minute period that Piedmont scored the final two goals of the contest near the end of the first half with Hatfield and Penado getting one each.

Standout Performances
--MEGAN HATFIELD had an assist and two goals on the day in one of her most productive outings so far this season...It's the second time this season Hatfield has scored twice as she also did so in the 7-0 season opening win over Agnes Scott.
--JAZMIN PENADO's goal in the 39th minute is her third goal of the season for the freshman from Gainesville, Georgia...It was a foul drawn by Penado that led to the Piedmont penalty kick as well converted by Hatfield.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont outshot the Hawks 19 to 5 with ten of PC's shots finding the target while all but one of Huntingdon's shots resulted in a Piedmont save, that only remaining shot the score for HC.
--The Lady Lions also held an incredible 11-2 advantage on corners with MORGAN EDELMAN coming close to scoring Piedmont's 4th goal as her header in the second half rattled the goal frame.
--Hatfield led all players with her five shots, three on target.

News & Notes
