Women's Soccer Gets Back on Track with 1-0 Win Over Methodist at Home

Need to Know
Score:  Piedmont 1 - Methodist 0
Records:  Lady Lions 13-1 (7-1 USA South), Monarchs 7-5 (5-2 USA South)
Location: Demorest, Georgia - Walker Athletic Complex

Demorest, GA - In yet another battle of top teams in conference, the Piedmont College women's soccer team managed to earn a 1-0 victory over the visiting Monarchs of Medhodist University scoring in the first half before clamping down to get the win.

For Piedmont, it's the second straight game the Lady Lions have faced a USA South foe in the top four of the league standings.

The Lady Lions scored in the first half when a CASSIDY REICH through ball deceived an oncoming Taylor Ross in goal for Methodist as the ball slipped past her and found a waiting SAMANTHA ISHEE running on to it.  Pressured from behind, Ishee collected the pass and finished calmly for her first collegiate score to put Piedmont up 1-0 in the 17th minute.

From there on, Piedmont was forced to absorb the pressure of the Methodist attack holding off the Monarchs for the 1-0 victory at home as the Lady Lion defense picked up its 11th clean sheet in 14 games.

Turning Point
--Piedmont did most of its damage early earning a pair of corners and tallying six shots in the opening 17 minutes until the sixth found the back of the net 16:41 into the game.

Standout Performances
--SAMANTHA ISHEE scored her first career goal as the freshman from Florida collected a pass and finished after slipping past the Methodist keeper.
--CASSIDY REICH led Piedmont with her eight shots on the day and picked up the assist on PC's goal.
--MICHAELA GARDNER tallied four saves in the shutout performance as she faced 14 shots for the second straight game.

Inside the Box Score
--The contest between the two conference powerhouses could not have been more even with each team turning out 14 shots and earning six corners.
--The 28 combined shots in the last two games that Piedmont keeper MICHAELA GARDNER has faced is tied for the most that she has seen in a two-game stretch with Piedmont's early season weekend against Birmingham-Southern and Bridgewater when she also faced 28 combined shots.

News & Notes
--For Piedmont, the win solidifies the program's 8th straight season with at least 13 wins in a season with all eight of those seasons coming under Head Women's Soccer Coach Stephen Andrew.
--Andrew has never led a Piedmont team to less than 13 wins in any of his eight years at the helm and has twice led his team to 17 victories in the previous four seasons.
