Lady Lions Volleyball Drops First Home Match of the Season to USA South Foe Covenant

Sid Feldman's squad was unable to match Covenant Wednesday night dropping their first conference match of the year and marked their first loss in 2014 inside Cave Arena.
Box Score Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College Lady Lions were unable to match Covenant College in Wednesday night's USA South home opener inside Cave Arena as the visiting Scots took a 3-0 decision. The Lady Lions (10-4, 2-1 USA South) dropped their first conference match and first match at home this season.

These teams proved to be evenly matched with a tight first set as the teams matched each other point for point from the 19th point to the 23rd, but it was Covenant who broke the streak taking two in a row to seal the first set 25-23, during which they recorded 22 kills. The first set was tied 12 times, and these two teams would be tied 27 times all evening.

In the second and third sets the Lady Lions were only able to record seven kills each outing with the Scots taking the second set 25-17 and the third by one point more 25-16.

Leading Piedmont on the stat sheet was senior Kaitlin Norman who again was in double figures with 10 kills while the assists were split fairly evenly between Xandy Green who had 13 and Kait Steele who recorded seven. Katie Faith, reigning USA South Defensive Player of the Week, had a team high 16 digs while Taylor Cramsey was also in double figures with 11.

The Scots tallied 50 kills in the match and a .256 attack percentage as a team, the highest percentage Piedmont has given up this season. In all four losses this year, the Lady Lions have given up 45 or more kills.

Piedmont returns to the court in non-conference action this weekend as they travel to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe and Centre College on Saturday. The Lady Lions will hit the court for the first match against Oglethorpe at 3 p.m.
