Box Score 2 Birmingham, AL - After opening the MckAttack Classic undefeated Friday, the Piedmont Volleyball team was unable to find the same success Saturday dropping matches to Mount St. Joseph and Birmingham Southern. PC dropped the opening match of the day 3-1, while the Panthers of Birmingham Southern swept the Lady Lions in the second game of the day, 3-0.
In the first match against Mount St. Joseph, the Lady Lions got a promising start taking the first set 25-22, but were unable to maintain that momentum losing the next three sets 25-19, 25-21, and a heart-breaking fourth set loss 30-28.
Defensively, it was again
Katie Faith leading the way with 19 digs while freshman setter
Kait Steele was second on the team with 10 digs.
Kaitlin Norman had 9 digs and 8 kills and
Mallory Leary contributed 7 kills.
Against Birmingham Southern, the Lady Lions lost in straight sets 25-18, 25-12 and 25-22. Leary finished tops on the team with 10 kills while
Taylor Cramsey accounted for 7. The freshman Steele continued to have an impressive start to her collegiate career as a setter contributing 23 assists and 8 digs while Faith led the team with 17 digs.
The Lady Lions will look to get back in the win column when they return to action for the home opener Wednesday, September 3 when Toccoa Falls College visits Cave Arena for a 7:00 p.m. start.
