Clinton, S.C. - In the 2014-2015 season opener, the Piedmont College Men's Basketball team came up just short against Division I Presbyterian College 82-72. Leading the Lions in scoring was
Brian Edwards with 14 points, picking up where he left off as he led the team in scoring last season averaging just over 13 points per contest.
The Blue Hose opened on a 6-0 run and led by as many as seven in the first half, but late in the period a layup by
Chris Meeks tied the game at 26. With 2:46 remaining in the opening half, Piedmont took the lead on a layup by
Brian Edwards but went into the break down 35-32 after a last second put back before the buzzer by Presbyterian.
In the second half, Piedmont cut it to a one-point game again with 16:45 remaining, but the Blue Hose went on a 10-0 run and would lead by as many as 16 with just under 5:00 left to play, but again it was a last second layup for the Blue Hose that ended the half. The Lions shot 42 percent from the field and were 18-19 at the line.
Three Lions were in double figures as Edwards led with 14 points but both
Chase England and J
Justin Vallejo added 11 of their own. England recorded a double-double with his 11 points and 10 rebounds, the only double-double of the contest.
Piedmont scored 18 points off the bench but gave up 25 to the Blue Hose. The Lions were able to outrebound the home team as they had 41 rebounds including 15 offensive while keeping Presbyterian to only 36 all evening.
Piedmont will be back in action this Saturday taking on local rival Tocca Falls College at 7:00 p.m. The last time these two met was the final game of the season in 2013-2014 with the Eagles coming away with the 59-57 victory after two late free throws decided the contest.
