Averett University Takes Series Finale From Lions, 6-3

Junior Matt Lisk went eight full innings allowing two earned runs while striking out four as the Lions fell to Averett University by the score of 6-3.
Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia - The Piedmont College baseball team fell to visiting USA South Conference foe Averett University this afternoon at Loudermilk Field by the score of 6-3. The victory gives the Cougars the series and clinches the #3 seed while the Lions drop to the #5 seed for the upcoming USA South Conference Tournament.

The visiting Cougars jumped out with a pair of runs in the first and added a single run in the second to take command. The Lions would rally with three runs on two hits in the third to know the score 3-3 as Tim Nunez and Dale Bartek notched two-out singles for one and two RBI's respectively.

Averett would answer with a pair of runs in the fifth to take the final lead of the game. After an insurance run in the top of the ninth the Lions brought the tying-run to the plate but lined out to end the game.

Junior Matt Lisk took the hard-luck loss going eight full innings allowing two earned runs while striking out four. The Lions committed four costly errors that led to five unearned runs en route to the defeat.

Michael Barnes led the offense going 2-4 while Tate Koons added a 2-5 day at the plate. The Lions, now 17-16 overall and 13-11 in the USA South Conference, will open the conference tournament on Thursday, April 11 as they take on the #4 seeded Panthers of LaGrange College.
