Box Score Demorest, GA - Piedmont baseball went back and forth with Covenant College before taking a 7-3 win. The Lions outhit the Scots and took advantage of errors to move runners around the bases in the victory.

Both teams played tough defense early, giving up only two hits each in the first three innings. When the Scots came up to bat in the fourth, C. Rollins doubled with two outs. The following batter put the first run on the board with a single to take the lead.

Piedmont came back in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff single by Keith Grabowski. Will Skidmore moved Grabowski into scoring position, reaching on an error and "Kevin D'Antingac" brought in the first run with an sacrifice bunt. Skidmore stole third before Michael Barnes reached base on balls and stole a base of his one. With runners on second and third, Austin Brick stepped up and singled to score both runners to put the score 3-1 in Piedmont's favor at the end of the inning.

The Scots bit back and tied the game up 3-3 with a pair of RBI singles in the top of the sixth.

Garrett Lovelace led off the bottom of the sixth with a single; his pinch runner, Colton Bryant, would steal second on the next pitch. Matt Youtsey was hit by a pitch to put the winning run in scoring position. Grabowski stepped up to the plate and sacrifice bunted to move both runners up a base. With the next at-bat, Skidmore earned an RBI by forcing an out at third and scoring Bryant. Bryant's run would turn out to be the eventual game-winner.

In the eighth, the Lions had a trio of singles by Youtsey, Grabowski, and Skidmore with the latter being an RBI. Evan Gresham sacrifice bunted and reached on a fielding error by the pitcher to load the bases. Senior Kevin D'Antignac RBI-singled to move the runners a base each before Michael Barnes could hit a groundball that would allow Skidmore to reach home on the shortstop's erroneous throw.

Piedmont's Billy Mangum gave a good five innings but the win went to Allen Tokarz who pitched in the sixth and seventh; he moves to 4-3 on the season.

The Lions move to 20-21 overall after the victory. Piedmont's next competition comes by way of a three game series against Emory University this weekend. Game one will be played at Piedmont, Friday night at 7:00 p.m. followed by two 3:00 p.m. games the following days at Emory in Atlanta, GA.
