Panthers Use Late Surge To Overtake Piedmont, 3-1

Josh Bailey led the offense going 2-3 with a walk and a run scored as the Lions fell 3-1 to USA South host LaGrange College.
Box Score LAGRANGE, Georgia - The Piedmont College baseball team dropped the opening game of the USA South Conference series at LaGrange College this evening by the score of 3-1. The Lions clung to a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the eighth when the home standing Panthers posted three runs to take the come from behind victory.

The Lions lone run came in the sixth inning as Logan Pethel drove in Josh Bailey from second base with an RBI-single. In the eighth the Panthers posted three hits and capitilized on a two-out error to plate three runs. After a scoreless top of the ninth LaGrange walked away with the two-run decision.

Senior Kevin Caldwell took the hard luck decision going seven and a third innings allowing only one earned run while scattering eight hits. Sophomore Jake Brewster came in and struck out a pair of hitters in two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Bailey led the offense going 2-3 with a run scored and a walk while newcomer Breck Davidson added a 2-4 day with a double and a triple.

The Lions, now 14-13 overall and 11-8 in the USA South, will look to bounce back tomorrow, March 29 as they take on LaGrange starting at 4:00.
