Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - The Piedmont College baseball team rebounded to take the USA South Conference series finale from #4 Christopher Newport University this afternoon by the score of 5-3. On a cold and rainy day the Lions were able to post seven hits and use RBI's from four different players en route to the victory.
CNU scored the first run of the game in the third inning before the Lions quickly responded with a pair of runs on three hits in the fourth.
Logan Pethel drilled an RBI-single while
Michael Barnes capped the scoring with a bases loaded walk.
Piedmont would add single runs in the fifth and sixth as
Colton Bryant and
Austin Brick notched RBI's making the score 4-1. After the Captains posted two runs in the seventh the Lions added an insurance run as Brick again came thru with an RBI plating Kevin D'Antignac from second.
Junior
Matt Lisk earned his second win of the season going six-plus innings allowing three earned runs while striking out four. The tandem of
Allen Tokarz and
James Pearce went two innings scoreless innings bridging the gap to
Jacob Brewster who picked-up his seventh save of the season retiring the Captains in order.
Brick led the offense going 2-4 with a pair of runs batted in while
Keith Grabowski added a 2-4 day with a run.
The victory moves Piedmont to 12-11 overall and 9-6 in the USA South Conference. The Lions will play host to Ferrum College in a three-game set this weekend starting on Saturday, March 23 at 3:00.
