Lions Fall To #4 Christopher Newport, 8-4

Senior Garrett Lovelace posted a solo homer in the Lions 8-4 loss at Christopher Newport University.
Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - The Piedmont College baseball team fell in the opening game of the three-game USA South Athletic Conference series with host Christopher Newport University by the score of 8-4. The Captains were able to post 12 hits and plate eight runs to take the four-run decision.

Christopher Newport jumped out with six runs in the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead. The Lions responded in the fifth as Garrett Lovelace blasted a solo home run with two outs. PC would add another single run in the sixth as Evan Gresham posted a two-out RBI-single plating Tate Koons.

The Lions would cut the deficit to 6-4 with two runs in the eighth but the Captains would answer with two runs in the home half. The Lions could not overcome the four runs in the ninth and dropped the opening series game.

Lovelace paced the offense going 1-3 with an RBI while five other players posted single hits.

The Lions, now 11-10 overall and 8-5 in the USA South, will return to the field again tomorrow, March 16 as they take on the Captains starting at 1:00.
