Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Georgia - The Piedmont College baseball team fell to non-conference host Covenant College this afternoon by the score of 9-8 in extra innings. In a back and forth affair the home standing Scots were able to post a single run in the bottom of the ninth and the walk-off run in the 11th to secure the victory.
Piedmont jumped out with a pair of runs in the second as senior
Garrett Lovelace connected on a two-run blast. Covenant would answer with single runs in the third and fourth to knot the score at 2-2.
In the fifth the Lions posted three runs on as many hits highlighted by a
Keith Grabowski double that plated a pair. The Scots would respond with a pair of runs in the home half and a single run in the sixth to tie the score again.
After
Casey Parham helped spark a three-run seventh with a two-RBI single the home team would once again answer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning making the score 8-7. In the bottom of the ninth the Scots found the game-tying run with two hits sending the game into extras.
The Lions went scoreless in the 10th and 11th before Covenant would connect on the game-winning walk-off hit in the bottom of the 11th.
Tate Koons led the offense going 2-4 with a pair of runs scored while Parham added a 2-5 day with three runs batted in and a run scored. Lovelace went 1-2 with a pair of RBI's while Kevin D'Antignac chipped-in with a 2-5 day with a run.
The Lions, now 11-9 overall, will return to USA South Conference play this weekend as they travel to Christopher Newport University with game one of the three-game set starting on Friday, March 15 at 1:00.
