Baseball Splits Double Header With Scots, Takes Two of Three In Series

Josh Bailey helped lead the Lions going 5-9 with five runs scored as the squad took two out of three from visiting USA South opponent Maryville College this afternoon at Loudermilk Field.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DEMOREST, Georgia - In the first home USA South Conference series for the Piedmont College baseball team the Lions split a double header with Maryville College taking game one 14-12 but falling in the nightcap 7-6. On the day Piedmont plated 20 runs and notched 26 hits to move to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the USA South Conference.

In the opener the Scots notched a single run in the first but the Lions answered quickly with three runs on on as many hits to the advantage. MC would explode with five runs on four hits in the second and hold Piedmont at bay for the next three frames.

The Lions would knot the score 6-6 with three runs in the fifth highlighted by a TUCKER EHMIG two-out doublethat plated a run. After the Scots tacked on three more runs in the sixth and a pair in the seventh PC answered with eight runs on six hits to regain the lead for good.

DREW STEPHENS picked up the victory on the mound while JOSH THOMAS added his second save of the year going two innings while striking out three.

In the finale Maryville took command with a pair of runs in the first but the Lions responded to take a 3-2 lead with a single run in the first and a pair in the second. The visitors would add five runs in the next three frames to take the final lead change of the night. After cutting the score to 7-6 in the seventh the Lions fell just short leaving five runners on base in the final two innings, three of which were in scoring position.

For the day LOGAN PETHEL led the offense going 9-10 with three runs batted in and three runs scored. JOSH BAILEY closely followed going 5-9 with five runs scored while TATE KOONS added a 3-8 day at the dish.

The Lions will return to action again on Tuesday, February 26 as they travel to in-state rival Oglethorpe University atarting at 5:00.
