Demorest, GA - In the last game of the 2013 Early Spring Classic hosted by Piedmont College, the Lions were blown out by the #6 Panthers of Birmingham Southern College 11-1. Birmingham Southern, who never trailed, outhit the home team 9-5 en route to the 10-run victory.
Birmingham Southern started off strong in the 1st getting two hits off of Lions pitcher
MATT LISK. One run scored on a wild pitch and three were left on base. The visitors would tack five runs on four hits to take command of the game.
In the top of the fourth, unearned runs by two Panthers brought the deficit to eight runs. Freshman
SPENCER SHEHEANE tried to rally PC with a single in the 4th but the Lions were held at bay by the Panthers pitching staff.
CASEY PARHAM plated the lone run for the Lions after leading off the eighth inning with a sharp single and later scoring on an RBI-single from
JOSH BAILEY.
MATT LISK took the loss for Piedmont going four complete innings allowing four earned runs while striking out the same number. Five Lions hit their way on base but the squad left eight on base and posted six errors which led to seven unearned runs.
The Lions came out of the weekend with a 3-5 overall record. They maintain their 2-1 USA South Conference record moving forward and will host non-conference Washington and Lee this Wednesday, February 20 at Loudermilk Field. The game is scheduled for 3:00 PM .
