DEMOREST, Georgia - The visiting Majors of Millsaps College spoiled the Piedmont College baseball home-opener this evening at Loudermilk Field handing the Lions an 8-6 defeat. The visitors pounded out 14 hits and scored in four different innings en route to the non-conference victory.

The Majors jumped out with single runs in the second and third inning before the Lions answered with a single run in the third frame as COLTON BRYANT drove in MATT YOUTSEY with an RBI-groundout. Millsaps would answer with three runs on four hits in the fourth to take the 5-1 advantage.

In the sixth the Lions roared back with a pair of runs as LOGAN PETHEL drew a bases loaded RBI-walk and GARRETT LOVELACE capped the scoring with a sacrifice-fly to rightfield.

In a wild seventh inning that featured a combined three hits and a pair of errors the Majors posted three runs before PC countered in the home-half with three runs making the score 8-6. The Lions would threaten in the ninth putting the tying run on base but would get no closer and dropped the two-run decision.

Pethel led Piedmont's offense going 1-4 with a pair of RBI's while freshman MICHAEL BARNES chipped-in with a 1-3 day at the plate. DREW STEPHENS threw two innings of scoreless baseball striking out one.

The Lions, now 3-3 overall, will return to action again tomorrow, February 16 as they host Lynchburg College starting at 5:00.
