GREENSBORO, North Carolina - In the final game of the three-game USA South Conference series the homestanding Greensboro Pride clipped the Lions by the score of 5-2 this afternoon. The Pride pitching staff was able to keep the Lions at bay scattering six hits and only two runs for the conference victory.
Greensboro jumped out with two runs in the first inning to take the only lead of the day. In the top of the second PC responded with a single run as freshman
EVAN GRESHAM notched his first career RBI. The Pride would answer with a single run in the home half to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Lions would post an unearned run in the fourth but GC would extend the lead with a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. Piedmont was held to only three hits in the final three frames and could not overcome the deficit dropping the three-run decision.
Junior
MATT LISK took the hard-luck loss going six full innings allowing only two earned runs while striking out five.
TATE KOONS led the offense going 2-4 while
JOSH BAILEY chipped-in with a 1-3 day at the plate with a run scored.
The loss moves Piedmont to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the USA South Conference. The Lions will return to action again on Friday, February 15 as they host Millsaps College in the home-opener scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
