Averett Golden Goal Lifts Cougars To OT Victory

Piedmont College Athletic Communications

Justin Whitaker scored a long distance goal in the Lions' 3-2 OT loss to Averett University this afternoon.
Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- Visiting Averett University needed an overtime golden goal to lift the Cougars to a 3-2 overtime victory over the PC men's soccer team this afternoon at PC's Walker Field in USA South Athletic Conference action.  Kevin Vigebo scored an unassisted goal in the third minute of overtime to secure the win for AU.

Jacob Andersson kicked off the scoring in the game's 46th minute after a scoreless first half as Jordan Bresler assisted the score. Piedmont would equalize on an AU miscue when the ball bounced into the goal after deflecting off an Averett player in the 64th minute.

Under two minutes later the Cougars would recapture the lead on a Justin Pierce header goal off of a corner kick from Vigebo.  It would be the Lions that equalized this time on a JUSTIN WHITAKER unassisted score from long distance.

In overtime Vigebo found the necessary space needed for the golden game-winner to lift AU to 4-5-1, 2-2 USA South.  The loss drops Piedmont to 4-5-1, 0-2-1 in conference play.

Nate Barker picked up the win in goal for Averett posting one save while counterpart KENNETH HEARN turned away 12 AU shots.

Averett held a commanding 25-7 advantage in shots and corner kicks (6-1).

Piedmont returns to action on October 3rd with a non-conference home match versus Talladega College.
