Volleyball Team Takes Sixth Straight Match With Sweep Of LaGrange & Covenant

Mallory Leary posted a season high 12 kills in the Lady Lions' 3-2 victory over Covenant.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DEMOREST, Georgia – The Piedmont College volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches with a pair of non-conference victories over LaGrange College and Covenant College this afternoon in Cave Arena.  PC downed LC 3-0 before capping the day with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Scots. 

In the opening victory over LaGrange, PC handled the visiting Panthers 25-14, 25-19, 25-21.  Six different players recorded at least four kills for the Lions highlighted by nine from COURTNEY BRADSHAW and eight from KAITLIN NORMAN who also posted a team-high nine digs.  KATHERYN KNARR (16) and ASHLEY FANNON (13) combined for 29 assists. 

Despite LC being a member of the USA South Athletic Conference, the match was played as a non-conference match  with the head-to-head in league standings scheduled for October 24 in LaGrange.  

In the second match, Piedmont downed the Scots (7-3) 23-25, 25-17, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-11.  Norman again posted the team-high in kills with 13 while JENNIFER OPPER and MALLORY LEARY pitched in with 12 apiece.  Knarr (29) and XANDY GREEN (24) combined for 53 assists while KATIE BYRD (19) and Norman (18) tallied 37 digs. 

After a PC timeout leading 8-7, the Lady Lions reeled off five of the next six points to ice the win and finish the match on a 7-4 run.  The match with Covenant marked on the second time through 11 matches that the Lady Lions had extended past three sets.  PC is now 1-1 in five-setters and 8-1 in matches that only last three.

The sweep wraps up a six-match home stand for the Lady Lions who move to x-x overall on the season.  PC will return to action on Tuesday, September 18 when the team travels to Rome, GA to take on NAIA Shorter University.
