Box Score

Birmingham, AL - The Lions dropped a heartbreaker on the road against the No. 12 Birmingham-Southern Panthers, allowing just one earned run in a 2-0 loss.  The offense could only come up with three hits in the loss, two coming from senior Kyle Davis, while freshman Max Oberkofler was tagged with the tough-luck loss on the mound, giving Piedmont a three-game losing streak for just the second time this year.

Oberkofler pitched strong in his start, but allowed a solo run in the fourth and fifth innings.  A leadoff triple for the host Panthers led to the game's first run on a groundout to second.  An unearned run in the bottom of the fifth frame was just insurance for Birmingham-Southern, who had Piedmont's offense reeling all night.  Davis reached on an infield single to start the game, and singled up the middle his second time up in the fourth.  Freshman Tucker Ehmig's infield hit was the only other hit by the Lions.  Two walks and a hit batsmen accounted for the rest of the PC baserunners.

Oberkofler went five strong, allowing just one earned run on five hits and four walks, striking out a pair.  Senior Caleb Cochran came in relief for two shutout innings of one-hit ball, followed by fellow senior Ed Cook who pitched the last frame, striking out two to just one hit.  The Lions move to 23-14 overall on the season and take a 4-5 Great South Athletic Conference record into the final series of the season, a road trip to LaGrange College beginning Friday at 7:00 pm.
