Box Score
Maryville, TN - A pair of long homeruns and five total extra-base hits pushed the Lions to a big 11-5 win on the road at Maryville College Friday night.  Junior starter
Kevin Caldwell didn't pitch his best, but he didn't have to, as sophomore
Josh Bailey and junior
James Moyer did a lot of the heavy lifting behind him, with each blasting homeruns.  A four-run fourth and four-run sixth accounted for most of the scoring for the visiting No. 23 Lions.
The host Scots' first inning run held up until the top of the fourth when the Lions put something together.  After junior
Garrett Lovelace led off with a double followed by senior Kevin D'Antignac's single, junior
Tim Nunez notched the game at one with a base hit to left.  Senior
Ethan Miers then laid down a sacrifice bunt, but ended up with more than he bargained for when the third baseman threw wildly to first, bringing in the go-ahead run.  Piedmont took advantage, as Moyer singled to center to push the lead to 3-1.  Bailey then singled to right for the fourth run of the frame.
Two innings later, they were right back at it.  Miers singled to lead off the inning and was came around to score on a double by junior
Tate Koons.  Senior
Kyle Davis was issued a free pass, bringing Bailey to the plate with one away and two aboard.  He answered the call with a three-run blast over the right field wall, giving Piedmont a commanding 8-1 lead.  Feeling the pressure, Maryville immediately cut the deficit to 8-3 after a pair of runs in its half of the sixth.  One swing of the bat by Moyer got those runs right back for the Lions in the top of the seventh, a shot over the right field wall that scored himself and D'Antignac, who had been hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.  Maryville kept pace with another two runs in the seventh, but the Lions were still up 10-5.  Koons' RBI single in the ninth sealed the 11-5 win.
Moyer ended a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with three RBI on his homerun, double and single.  Bailey finished with four RBI, connecting on his third homerun of the year.  Nunez and Koons also finished with a pair of hits each.  Caldwell picked up his sixth win of the season after going seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out seven.  Freshman
Luke MacDonald tossed two scoreless innings of relief to finish off the Scots.  The win moves the Lions to 23-11 on the season and 4-3 in Great South Athletic Conference play.  Piedmont plays again tomorrow against Maryville with a 3:00 pm start time, and will wrap up the series Sunday at 2:00 pm.
