Atlanta, GA - For the second straight game, the Lions' pitching was smashed for double digit run totals as the No. 6 Lions were outscored 17-9 in an offensive display at Emory University Saturday afternoon. The host Eagles tallied runs in all but the second and sixth innings, highlighted by a four-run fourth and five-run eighth. Junior
Kevin Caldwell endured his toughest outing of the season, lasting just five frames while surrendering 11 runs, seven earned, on 15 hits, a walk, while striking out just one.
The Lions' offense showed prowess with a three-run second, a pair of runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth in a comeback attempt. Senior
Curtis Cornett laced a two-run homerun, his second of the year, adding a double as part of his two-hit day. Fellow senior
Ethan Miers also added two hits and two RBI. The Lions were outhit 19-14 however by the home team.
The only lead PC saw came in the top of the second. After trailing 2-0 after the first inning, Miers singled in a pair to tie the game before a double by junior
Tate Koons gave the Lions a slim 3-2 lead. The advantage held until a two-run third put Emory up for good. The Eagles added four in the fourth and three in the fifth. After sophomore
Josh Bailey singled to lead off the fifth, Cornett cranked one over the leftfield wall to draw the game to 8-5 prior to the three put up by Emory in the home half.
The Lions' offense continued to stage a comeback attempt, as they brought home two more in the eighth. Miers and junior
Matt Youtsey singled to open the frame. Both runners moved over on a groundout and Miers came in on a wild pitch. Senior
Kyle Davis recorded a sacrifice fly to right as Piedmont trailed 12-7. The final statement was made by Emory with a five-run eighth in response to put the game out of reach, 17-7. PC put two more on the board in the final stanza when junior
Garrett Lovelace's infield single accounted for one before pinch-hitting freshman
Casey Parham doubled him in to close the scoring. Parham's second career hit was also his second career double and first RBI.

James Moyer reached base all four times up, walking three times and singling once. Piedmont dropped its second straight for just the second time this season, as they now sit at 19-8 overall. The men return to the diamond tomorrow at home against Emory with a double header beginning at 2:00 pm.
