Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team capped an undefeated weekend with a 71-56 victory over Berry College on the second day of the USA South / SAA Women's Basketball Classic at Cave Arena. The win moves Piedmont to 3-1 overall on the season as the Lady Lions were the only team in the four-team classic to go unbeaten.
Berry scored the game's first eight points but from there it was all Piedmont. A layup by
LAUREN HAMEL tied the game with just over seven minutes remaining in the half and a jumper by
CHANDLER ALVERSON less than a minute later would give the Lady Lions their final lead of the game. Layups by
LAUREN HAMEL and Kiki Thompson would cap a 14-0 run for Piedmont.
The Lady Lions held a 28-21 advantage at the break and hold the lead for the entire second frame despite the visiting Vikings whittling it down to four (50-46) on a jumper by Chandlir Segarra.
Piedmont's pressure defense forced 22 BC turnovers and held the Vikings to a dismal 32.8% (22-67) from the floor.
PC placed three players in double-figures led by Hamel's 15 points.
MARY KATE RUSHTON and
ALYSSA JONES chipped in with 12 and 10 respectively. Jones rounded out an impressive line with eight assists, five rebounds and four assists while Rushton scored all of her points in just 11 minutes of action off the bench.
Megan Walsh scored a game-high 16 points for Berry while Segarra was held to 15 points on 21 field goal attempts after scoring 33 on Saturday.
