Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team moved to 2-1 overall with a 69-66 non-conference victory over previously unbeaten Oglethorpe on the opening day of the USA South / SAA Classic in PC's Cave Arena.  Piedmont will face Berry College tomorrow at 4:00 to wrap up the cross-conference event.

After the two teams eased out to a 12-12 tie over the game's first seven minutes, the Stormy Petrels used a 10-0 run to take a 22-12 lead midway through the first half.  After a PC timeout, the Lady Lions would rally and take a 28-26 lead on a three-point basket by freshman MARY KATE RUSHTON with just under five minutes remaining in the half.  Piedmont would take that lead into intermission (36-35).

The entire second half would remain a two possession game with either team's largest lead being four points with the team's exchanging the lead 13 times.  A jumper by CHANDLER ALVERSON with 2:48 left would give the Lady Lions their final lead of the night and the freshman would follow it with a three-point basket that would give PC a four-point advantage that they would nurse from the free throw line the remainder of the contest.

LAUREN HAMEL and ALYSSA JONES led the scoring for the Lady Lions with 17 and 16 respectively.  Hamel would complete her first double-double of the season with a team-high 10 rebounds while Jones would round out a solid night with six assists. LAUREN ANDERSON pitched in with eight points and six rebounds while Alverson would finish with nine.

Oglethorpe placed four players in double-figures led by Gabby Cole's game-high 20 while teammate Sarah Giles posted a double-double of 10 points and 18 rebounds.

In the classic's opening game, Berry College outscored LaGrange College 103-99 in overtime behind Chanlir Segarra's game-high 33 points.  Oglethorpe and LaGrange will square off in Cave Arena tomorrow at 2:00.
