ATLANTA, Georgia -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team dropped a 72-54 decision to #22 Emory University this evening in the championship game of the EU Tip-Off Classic. EU scored the game's first six points and never looked back as the Eagles led 41-25 at the break and would extend their lead with an 11-1 run to open the second half.
LAUREN HAMEL and ALYSSA JONES each reached double-figures in scoring with 13 and 10 respectively. Jones collected a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman MARY KATE RUSHTON also netted double-figures with 10 points as the freshman made two of the Lady Lions' three baskets from behind the three-point line.
Piedmont was cold from the floor as the team connected on just 29% of its shots (18-61) compared to Emory's 40% (28-69). The Lady Lions were able to force 20 EU turnovers and got to the free throw line for eight more chances than the Eagles.
Emory's Hannah Lilly scored a game-high 21 points while teammate Misha Jackson collected a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds.
Piedmont (1-1) will return to action on November 24-25 when the Lady Lions play host to the USA South / SAA Classic in Cave Arena with a double header of cross-conference games beginning at 2:00 PM each day. Participants include PC and LaGrange College out of the USA South and Berry College and Oglethorpe University representing the SAA.
