Box Score 2 DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont College volleyball team split a pair of USA South Athletic Conference matches this afternoon in Cave Arena as the Lady Lions downed William Peace University 3-0 before dropping a 3-1 decision to Maryville College. The loss ended the team's six-match winning streak and marked PC's first loss in conference play.
In the first match of the day PC breezed past William Peace 25-17, 25-14, 25-22. Freshman
MALLORY LEARY posted a team-high seven kills on an impressive .319 hitting percentage.
JENNIFER OPPER and
KAITLIN NORMAN each added six kills apiece.
KATHERYN KNARR (15) and
XANDY GREEN (12) combined for 27 kills while defensive specialist
PAIGE ESLINGER picked up 19 digs.
In the second match, PC got off to a fast start winning the first set 25-22 before the visiting Scots rallied off the final three 25-19, 25-22, 25-23. Leary and Norman each posted double figures in kills with 10 and 11 respectively as Leary hit .300 for the second straight match. Green (25) and Knarr (20) again orchestrated the offense with 45 combined assists while Eslinger recorded 16 assists.
Piedmont (15-5, 3-1 USA South) returns to action on short rest as the team hosts Centre College tomorrow (October 7) at 1:00 in Cave Arena in non-conference action.
