Volleyball Team Drops Two USA South Matches

Taylor Cramsey posted four kills on a .286 hitting percentage in the Lady Lions' 3-0 loss to Averett.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Virginia -- The Piedmont College volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 USA South Athletic Conference decisions this afternoon to host Averett University and #5 Christopher Newport University.  The losses move Piedmont to 17-10 overall and an even 4-4 in conference play.

In the opener, the host Cougars downed the Lady Lions 25-14, 25-14, 25-17.  MALLORY LEARY tallied a team-high six kills while DANIELLE MAFFETT, KAITLIN NORMAN and TAYLOR CRAMSEY each added four.  KATHERYN KNARR (8) and XANDY GREEN (7) combined for 15 assists.  PAIGE ESLINGER posted 17 digs while Knarr and Norman pitched in with 11 and 10 respectively.

Against nationally-ranked CNU, the Lady Lions fell 25-12, 25-12, 25-13.  CNU, who is ranked #5 in the latest NCAA Division III poll, posted an afternoon sweep and left Danville riding a 20-match winning streak.

Leary again posted a team-high seven kills while Knarr dished out 13 assists.  Piedmont was only able to pick up a season-low 24 digs with Eslinger totaling seven and Knarr grabbing six.

The Lady Lions, who have dropped four straight matches and six of their last eight, will host Oglethorpe University on Tuesday, October 23 in non-conference action in Cave Arena with first serve scheduled for 7:30 PM.
