Birmingham, AL -- The Piedmont College volleyball team collected a pair of straight set victories earlier today in tournament action to finish as the runner-up in the McK Attack Tournament hosted by Birmingham Southern College. The Lady Lions defeated former Great South Athletic Conference member Stillman College 3-0 to start the day before beating a current GSAC member institution for the second time in the young 2011 season taking care of LaGrange 3-0.
In Piedmont's first match of the Sunday wrap up, the Lady Lions had their hands full with Stillman to start but ended up knocking off the foe 25-20, 25-23 in the first two sets before emphatically putting away the third 25-9. Leading the way in kills for the match was newcomer
Kaitlin Norman who posted nine on 21 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage.

Katheryn Knarr collected close to 20 assists on the match while classmate
Ashton Nash picked up ten of her own. Amongst the dig leaders was the familiar face of
Paige Eslinger who tallied 14 in the winning effort while Norman added a half dozen of her own for the all-around effort.
Next up for PC on the day was fellow GSAC member LaGrange College, a team that the Lady Lions were 2-0 against in 2010 dropping just a single set to the Panthers in the pair of victories. Sunday was more of the same for the green and gold who set the tone with a 25-9 set one winner before taking two tight games 25-20 and 25-22 for the three set match win.
Veterans led the way at the net this time around for PC as senior
Erin Krause tallied nine kills on 24 attempts for a .292 hitting percentage. Pulling five kills each was returner
Hallye Jerkins and newcomer
Jennifer Opper as each hit over .250 on the match.
Nash was the setting assist leader in the encore match of the day tallying 17 while Knarr added four more to the cause. Eslinger put up her third performance in 2011 with at least 20 digs picking up 25 against the Panthers while Krause tacked on eight as well.
Leaders on the day offensively were Krause and Norman who collected 13 and 10 kills respectively in the pair of match victories while Nash was the team's assist leader with 27 on the day. Eslinger continued her defensive ways picking up almost 40 digs in the two matches at the tourney earning her All-Tournament Team honors along with Nash.
The Lady Lions continue to make a strong statement in defense of the 2010 GSAC title with now a 4-1 record on the year including a pair of wins over conference opponents. Piedmont will have the week off before returning to action in the Greensboro Invitational on the weekend kicking off with a 2:00 pm afternoon match against Peace College on Friday, September 9th.
