Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College men's soccer team could not overtake the visiting Vikings of Berry College earlier this afternoon as the Lions fell 3-1 in their season opener. With the contest taking place in the Inaugural PC Fall Invitational, Piedmont tied the score at one a piece through halftime but saw Berry score a pair in the second for the two goal victory.
The Vikings got on the scoreboard first this afternoon making good on a penalty kick in the 20th minute as Berry's leading returner scorer Daniel Wartner buried the chance to the right post. However, Piedmont would even things up 22 minutes later when a

Sidney Smith streaking free to goal as the junior pinged his chance off the far post and in for a 1-1 score.
After getting level with the visitors, the Lions saw more pressure from the Vikings who outshot the home team 22 to nine in the contest with 12 of those coming on goal. Piedmont senior goalkeeper
Brian Gaid did all he could to keep his team even with the Vikings making nine saves including a brilliant kick save on a chance inside the six in the second half.
However, Berry made good on a pair of chances in the final 45 with goals in the 64th and 78th minutes to go up 3-1. That score would be the final as Piedmont dropped its home opener to the Vikings falling to 0-1 on the season.
PC gets back in action on Sunday afternoon starting their September 4th contest at 1:00 pm against the visiting Quakers of Guilford College. Fans can follow the action via live stats on the home of Piedmont College athletics, PiedmontLions.com.
