Atlanta, GA -- The Piedmont College volleyball team suffered only their third defeat of the 2011 season earlier tonight falling to Oglethorpe University 3-1 snapping a three-game winning streak in the process.  The loss is the first of the season in less than five sets for PC as both of their previous two losses had come in five-set thrillers while the Lady Lions fall to Oglethorpe for just the second time in their last 13 matchups.

Piedmont dug itself an early hole dropping a 25-14 decision in tonight's opening set before falling behind two sets losing in the second in tiebreak fashion 28-26.  Picking up a win in the third 25-17 put PC back in the contest at 2-1, but the fourth set turned out to be the match decider with Oglethorpe winning 25-18 for the overall 3-1 match victory.

As a team, the Lady Lions put up one of their worst hitting performances of the Sid Feldman era posting 30 hitting errors - just one shy of the hitting errors in their last three matches combined.  Two hitters swung in the negatives on the evening while the team managed just a .026 attack percentage, their lowest such mark in 2011.

Leading the team on the night with her eight kills was junior Hallye Jerkins while a trio of Lady Lions tabbed a half dozen each including senior Rachel Powell, sophomore Danielle Maffett, and freshman Kaitlin Norman.  Fresh off getting her 1,000th career dig, junior Paige Eslinger collected 20 digs in the four set match while classmate Jessica Hollis tacked on five more.

With 14 assists on the night to lead the team, Katheryn Knarr inched ever closer to 1,000 assists in her young Lady Lion career.  The sophomore now sits at 931 assists in 48 matches played averaging 5.59 helpers per set played.

The loss drops Piedmont to 14-3 overall including a 7-2 mark against teams from the state of Georgia.  The Lady Lions continue their busy week with a weekend conference tri-match in the Cave opening up with Spelman College at noon on Saturday, October 1st before taking on Huntingdon College at 4:00 pm on the same day in a rematch of the 2010 Great South Athletic Conference championship game.
