Box Score

Toccoa Falls, GA --
The Piedmont College volleyball team got things started off on the right foot in the 2011 season earlier tonight with a 3-0 shutout of local rival Toccoa Falls College on the Eagles' home floor.  The win is the second straight shutout season opening victory for Head Coach Sid Feldman who now sits 17 wins away from 400 in his career.

The Lady Lions took the match in three winning 25-19 in the first set before rattling two straight 25-18 scores in the second and third sets for the winner.  Piedmont was led at the net by junior Hallye Jerkins who posted 11 kills on the night while sophomore Ashley Fannon had a half dozen of her own.

Defensively, the team was led by 2010 Great South Athletic Conference Libero of the Year Paige Eslinger who collected 24 digs in her work behind the front line.  In the assist department, last year's leaders returned with impeccable balance as sophomores Katheryn Knarr and Ashton Nash had 21 and 20 assists respectively.

Head Coach Sid Feldman is now 3-0 in season openers with the Lady Lions with all three victories coming over the Eagles of Toccoa Falls.  In those three matches, Piedmont has dropped just a single set winning 3-1 in Feldman's first year at the helm.

With the victory, the Lady Lions start 1-0 on the season. Piedmont gets back on the floor this weekend at the Hilltop Classic hosted by Birmingham Southern College.  The first game for PC in the tourney is a rematch of the 2010 GSAC championship game as the Lady Lions will take on the Lady Hawks of Huntingdon College beginning at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 3rd.
