Millington, TN -- The Piedmont College baseball team has been eliminated from the 2011 NCAA South Regional Tournament falling for the second time in postseason play to the Hornets of Shenandoah University.  The nation's third ranked team defeated the third-seeded Lions 6-1 handing Piedmont a second loss in the tourney though PC finishes up a 32 win season, the second winningest season in the program's NCAA era.

Shenandoah tabbed four runs over the first two innings of play in tonight's contest to snag an early 4-0 lead with Piedmont's offense stifled for most of the evening.  The Lions collected six hits on the night to the Hornets' ten as Shenandoah continued to add to their advantage with a run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 5-0 after five complete at USA Stadium.

Piedmont did plate a run in the top of the eighth as a John Duke grounder to short turned into a Hornet error allowing centerfielder Dave Bartek to come in to score cutting Shenandoah's lead down to four.  However, the Hornets quickly got the score back in the bottom half of the frame to again push their lead to five at 6-1 through eight, a score that ended up being the final in Millington.

Despite being eliminated from regional action, the Lions post a third place finish at the tourney with their best ever showing in NCAA postseason action.  Piedmont finished 1-2 in their only other trip to the NCAA's coming away with a 2-2 record at the 2011 tournament.

The Lions wrap up 2011 with a 32-15 overall record, two wins shy of the season record in Piedmont's NCAA era.  Piedmont finishes the season having won 15 of their final 18 games in 2011 including an 8-2 mark in their last ten led by an experienced senior class who will leave campus as the winningest four-year class in Head Coach Jim Peeples' ten-year tenure with 107 victories left as a legacy.
