Lookout Mountain, GA --
The Piedmont College baseball team split a road doubleheader with Covenant College earlier today at the home ballpark of the Scots to take two of three in the weekend series. The Lions fell in game one 10-3 before posting a dramatic ninth inning in game two to claim a 6-2 victory over the Great South Athletic Conference member.

In game one, it was Covenant who rolled to a seven run decision holding a potent Lion lineup to just three runs scored on the day. Accounting for two of the team's three scores was shortstop Dale Bartek who went two of three at the plate with a pair of runs scored.

Freshman outfielder Josh Bailey also swung the bat well in the first game of today's doubleheader as he went three for four with a run scored. Posting a sacrifice fly as well, the youngster had a double included in his three hits for the first extra-base hit of his debut season.

In game two, the Lions took a defensive stance with solid pitching leading the way for a Piedmont victory 6-2. Starting pitcher Caleb Cochran put up six innings of work on the mound allowing just a pair of scores as reliever Ed Cook picked up the win striking out three in two innings.

The score was notched at 2-2 in the top of the ninth until the Piedmont bats came alive as the Lions sent ten to the plate to rally for four runs taking a 6-2 lead. With closer Matt Collins coming on in the bottom of the ninth, the game was all but over as the reliever was flawless to help hand PC the four-run win.

Game two's offensive leaders included Ethan Miers who was two for five with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Outfielder Tate Koons also connected on two of his five tries at the plate while Dale Bartek adding another two runs scored to his daily totals.

The split gives Piedmont the series victory as the Lions took two of three from their cross-state rival and moves the squad to 12-7 overall. The Lions will return to action when they host visiting Arcadia University for a mid-week contest on Tuesday, March 13 with the first pitch set for 3:00.
