Box Score

Demorest, GA --
In their first extra-inning game of the season, the Piedmont College baseball team defeated visiting Millsaps College by the score of 2-1 in 13 innings. With both teams combining for 31 runners left on base, 22 in scoring position, the Lions rallied with one out in the bottom of the 13th to take the walk-off victory.

PC opened the scoring in the third inning as Kevin McConnell worked a two-out bases loaded walk scoring Kyle Davis. The lead would hold until the top of the sixth inning when the Majors answered with an unearned run on two hits and a pair of errors.

The score would remain knotted at one apiece until the bottom of the 13th when senior Dave Bartek cracked a one out double. After a wild pitch sent the eventual game-winning run to third, Davis came thru with an RBI-single to deep right field.

Starter Kevin Caldwell went seven complete innings allowing only four hits while striking out five for the no-decision. Senior closer Matt Collins entered the contest in the top of the ninth with runners on second and third and one out and fanned the next two hitters to end the threat.

Collins would go another three complete innings of shutout relief adding six more strikeouts. Senior Josh Strickland picked up his first win of the season tossing a scoreless 13th.

James Moyer and Davis led the offense with three hits and a walk respectively. Jules Roussel and Will Hawkins paced the Majors offense with a combined six hits and a run scored. Reliever Jason Riggins went six and a third innings of scoreless relief while striking out five.

The victory moves Piedmont to 6-4 on the season and 4-1 in the friendly confines of Loudermilk Field. The Majors, now 7-2 overall, will face Adrian College tomorrow, February 26th in a neutral site contest starting at 2:00. MC will then take on the host Lions for the second of a two-game set with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 at Loudermilk Field.
