Box Score

Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College volleyball team stayed perfect in matches decided in three sets on the season with their clean sweep of visiting Clark Atlanta University, a NCAA Division II member school.  The Panthers were no match for the offensive attack of the Lady Lions who tallied 44 kills on 111 attempts to hit .261 as a team while Clark Atlanta was held to a .163 percentage with 28 kills.

Each set was close in the 3-0 victory for PC though the home team continued its strong finishes as the squad has not dropped a set in the last nine played as a team.  Piedmont took the opening set 25-20 before holding off the Panthers 25-18 for a winner in set number two going up two sets to nil with the third yet to play.

It was in that third set where Piedmont would post a match-high 17 kills creating 50 attempts for their Lady Lions at the net to win going away 25-20 completing the 3-0 shutout, their 11th of the season.  The Lady Lions were also a defensive force at the net on the night getting eight block assists and two solos from their front line to help stuff the Panthers' attack.

The highlight of the net came in the setting department as sophomore Katheryn Knarr tallied 18 assists with the 10th of her night representing the 1,000th of her career.  Knarr is just the third player to crest 1,000 helpers in the program's NCAA era joining former Lady Lions B.J. Ostrzycki and Tyler Baldonado who holds the program record with 3,375 from 2006-09.

Knarr's classmate Ashton Nash was not far behind her fellow setter getting 17 assists on the night helping to guide a PC attack that posted its ninth most efficient performance offensively on the season.  Leading at the net was junior Hallye Jerkins with her nine kills on 24 attempts for a .166 attack percentage while sophomore Ashley Fannon also posted nine kills on the evening swinging .466.

Freshman Kaitlin Norman had eight kills on 19 attempts while senior Rachel Powell tacked on six to push her season totals to 126 sitting her 15 behind the team's leader in that category, Jerkins.  In the digs department, junior Pagie Eslinger had four digs while defensive specialist Jessica Hollis led the team with her eight digs.

The victory is the third straight for Piedmont volleyball and moves the Lady Lions to 17-3 overall.  The team will look for win number 18 of the season and number 400 of Head Coach Sid Feldman's collegiate coaching career when they travel to Atlanta to compete in the Emory National Tournament this weekend.  The Lady Lions kick off tourney action with a 2:30 pm afternoon game against Lynchburg College on Friday, October 7th.
