Danville, KY -- The Piedmont College volleyball team fell in a pair of road contests earlier this afternoon wrapping their regular season in a tri-match hosted by Centre College.  After falling first to the hosting Colonels of Centre in four, the Lady Lions dropped a tough five set decision to Cumberland University losing a two set advantage in what would be the team's tenth loss in its last 14 matches.

Against Centre, Piedmont fell in the opening set 25-19 before coming back to tie things up with a 25-23 thriller in the second set.  Despite pulling even, the Lady Lions would get no closer watching the Colonels run away with set three 25-12 before dropping a tight 25-23 fourth set to fall in the eventual 3-1 decision.

Sophomore Ashley Fannon led the way offensively with her ten kills against Centre while Hallye Jerkins added nine to the effort.  Jerkins also had a pair of solo blocks in what was a good day for the Lady Lions defensively at the net while newcomer Kaitlin Norman threw in eight kills as well.

Junior Jessica Hollis had another brilliant day for Head Coach Sid Feldman to lead the defense of PC.  One day after her 37-dig output in a 3-1 win over Sewanee-University of the South, Hollis would tab 22 digs against the Colonels of Centre to continue her solid contribution to Piedmont's defense.

In the Cumberland game, the Lady Lions looked to be taking control of the match when winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18 for a 2-0 lead in the match.  However, Piedmont's advantage would quickly wither away when Cumberland won back-to-back 25-22 sets to force a deciding fifth set which the Lady Lions dropped 15-7 to fall 3-2 overall.

Fannon was once again the leader offensively with a dozen kills while Norman added 11.  Jerkins and senior Rachel Powell both tabbed nine kills a piece while Norman added 13 digs to her stat sheet.

Freshman Katie Byrd had 18 digs on the defensive end of things while Hollis added another 30-dig performance to wrap up a career weekend with three stellar performances.  As a team, the Lady Lions collected 11 total blocks on the afternoon as Jerkins picked up four solos to lead the way, but the offense struggled to find a go-to option leading to a pair of losses for PC.

The Lady Lions end the regular season at 21-13 following the two road defeats.  Piedmont will now return to action on Friday, November 4th when they play the winner of LaGrange College and Spelman College in the second semifinal of the Great South Athletic Conference championship tournament.  All action of the upcoming title tourney will take place in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center on the campus of Piedmont College as PC's semifinal will start at 8:00 pm.
