Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College volleyball team won its 21st game of the 2011 season earlier tonight defeating the Tigers of Sewanee-University of the South in the first of a three-game road trip. The Lady Lions were unfazed by the Tigers pulling even with a win ithe second set rolling to a 3-1 victory winning the final two sets of the evening using 11 team blocks to suffocate the Sewanee offensive attack.
Piedmont opened up with a 25-17 winner in set number one before Sewanee took a tight 25-20 decision in the encore to put the match even at one set a piece. However, the Lady Lions came out to make a statement in the third set winning 25-15 before pulling a 25-19 winner in the fourth and final set to hand the Tigers a loss in their home gym.
Leading the way in kills was youngster
Kaitlin Norman who continues to tear it up offensively with 13 kills on the night bringing her totals over the last three matches to 31. Contributing a dozen was fellow freshman
Jenna Hoffman while junior
Hallye Jerkins got in on the party with her nine kills against the Tigers.
In the assist department,
Ashton Nash had 15 helpers while
Katheryn Knarr posted a team-high 18 as well. Nash also added ten digs defensively though the star on that end was specialist
Jessica Hollis who had an incredible 37 digs on match, blowing away her previous career high of 22 which came against LaGrange earlier this season while also coming up just five shy of the record 42 held by teammate
Paige Eslinger.
The Lady Lions return to the court on Saturday, October 29th when they travel to Kentucky for a pair of matches. Piedmont first takes on host Centre College in an 11:00 am morning match before facing Cumberland University out of Tennessee in a 1:00 pm match.
