Men's Soccer Defeats Ferrum 2-1 To Claim Tournament Title

Along with three other Lions including MVP Chase Rivers, Brian Reulbach earned All-Tournament honors as the Lions claimed the Ferrum College Classic title by virtue of a 2-1 victory over the host Panthers earlier this afternoon.

The Piedmont College men's soccer team defeated the host Panthers of Ferrum College 2-1 earlier this afternoon to claim the Ferrum College Classic title.  Four Lions earned All-Tournament honors including Tournament MVP Chase Rivers who posted three goals in the weekend event.

Piedmont jumped on the board first against the Panthers on a 25th minute goal from Rivers who put away a Sidney Smith cross.  The sophomore would then earn a goal of his own in the 37th minute giving him a goal and an assist on the day while handing the Lions a 2-0 lead. 

In the second half, Piedmont would allow a goal on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute but held on to earn the 2-1 road victory.  By virtue of the result, the Lions would claim the Ferrum College Classic Championship and their sixth victory of the season.

Achieving All-Tournament honors was junior goalkeeper Brian Gaid and sophomore defender Brian Reulbach who were a part of the Lions' 4-0 shutout win over Warren Wilson on Saturday, September 18.  Goalscorers Sidney Smith and Chase Rivers joined their teammates on the honoree list with Rivers earning MVP honors.

The Lions, now 6-2, will look to improve on their fast start when they face in-state foe Emory University in Atlanta, GA on Wednesday, September 22.  The match is slated to kickoff at 6:00.
