Box Score

Ferrum, VA --
The Piedmont College men's soccer team had little trouble in their opener at the Ferrum College Classic defeating Warren Wilson College 4-0.  A two goal lead at halftime was more than enough for the road warriors as the Lions shutout their opponent for the third time this season.

PC opened the scoring less than a minute into the contest when a Bradley Thomas service found the head sophomore Sidney Smith to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.  Freshman Justin Whitaker then added to the list of scorers when he notched his fifth goal of the season later in the half.

After the break, Piedmont freshman Chase Rivers made his mark on the match scoring two goals in the final 15 minutes of play.  Sophomore Koffi Ametohoun tallied an assist on one of the Rivers goals while freshman Wes Snyder accounted for the other.

The win puts the men's soccer team at 5-2 on the season, their best start since the 2007 season.  For Head Coach Jimmy Stephens, the win was the 100th of his career as a men's soccer coach as the veteran also spent several years coaching on the women's side of the sport.  The squad will look to claim the Ferrum College Classic title with a win over the host Panthers of Ferrum on Sunday, September 19 with the match slated for a 1:00 kickoff.
