Tigerville, SC -- After having claimed two victories in their last two matches, the Piedmont College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at NCAA Division-II member school North Greenville University earlier this evening. The Crusaders managed only to take the first two sets of the match by a combined total of four points, but the Lady Lions ran out of gas allowing NGU to take the third set 25-19.
In the first set, Piedmont took North Greenville to the limit falling in a tiebreak situation 27-25 before dropping another tight decision in the second set 25-23. NGU would then go on to claim the third and deciding set to send the Lady Lions to their fifth loss of 2010.
For the match, junior outside hitter
Erin Krause posted an all around performance with 15 digs and tied for a team high with eight kills. Also posting eight kills was senior right side hitter
Heather Stafford while classmate
Kalin DeMarrais followed close behind with seven of her own to go along with 12 digs.
Senior
Jennifer Granlund, recently named GSAC Player of the Week, led the way on the defensive end posting 22 digs to lead the team. Freshman setter
Katheryn Knarr helped herself to 18 assists while guiding the PC attack to 34 kills combined.
The Piedmont College volleyball team will return to action looking to even the season series with the Crusaders when North Greenville travels to Demorest for a 11:00 match on Saturday, September 18. Later that same day, Piedmont will also host Shorter College for a 3:00 match.
