Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College baseball team dropped the second of a three game set at Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College this afternoon by a 22-11 score. The Lions were out hit twenty two to fourteen as they fell to the host Panthers for the second time in as many days.
Piedmont sprinted out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first as
Kevin McConnell broke out with a two run double. LaGrange would strike back in the home half of the same inning with a score only to see Lion
John Duke collect his twenty fourth RBI of the season in the top of the second.
The lead would see-saw between the two squads with LaGrange taking a 6-5 advantage in the bottom of the third before the Lions earned three runs of their own in the fourth to reclaim the lead.
Daniel Rivera contributed to the fourth inning push with a RBI double.
The Panthers then rattled off a ten run fourth inning to permanently move in front of the visitors. LaGrange went on to outscore PC 6-3 down the stretch en route to the Panthers' 22-11 victory.
Offensively, the Lions were led by
Kevin McConnell who posted four hits in five plate appearances while collecting four RBIs and scoring two more runs. Junior
John Duke batted in two in a 2-3 performance at the plate and scored two runs as well. Outfielder
Tate Koons was a perfect 2-2 at the bat as he also scored a run.
The loss went to pitcher
Josh McEachin who went three and a third innings allowing eleven runs on thirteen hits.
With the defeat, Piedmont falls to 18-15 on the season while dropping to 4-4 in GSAC play. The Lions will look to avoid the series sweep taking on LaGrange College on Sunday, April 18 with the first pitch set for 2:00.
